The goal of every company or government web content manager is to bring more visitors to his/her site. If that's the case, then why are many of us devoting more money, time and people to optimizing web pages for search engines instead of developing content for real people?
Devloping content and getting to understand what your web users really need is hard work. It is easy to put off writing content for the web and fall into the search engine optimization (SEO). Don't get me wrong, I believe that all web pages should have easy to understand title pages, meta descriptions and keywords, but that is about it.
Vincent Flanders, author of Web Pages That Suck made a short video on the subject which makes the point. He suggests focusing on content instead of getting hung up about search engine optimization, fooling Google or the other large search engines. Enjoy the video and Web Pages That Suck website
